Stockholm, Saturday September 18 2010, 1 pm at Sergels Torg

The first collective reading took place in Stockholm on September 18 2010, the day before the general election in Sweden. The initiators Malin Arnell, Kajsa Dahlberg, Johanna Gustavsson and Fia-Stina gathered a large group of people at ”Plattan”, Sergels Torg, a big square in the center, famous for it’s many public manifestations.
It was a cold and rainy day, but the participants were very brave and stayed throughout the reading. People who were passing by joined in or stayed for a while to listen.

Unfortunately the dream president, or ”Statsminister” was not elected this time either. A white male (Moderate Party) kept his position of power and on top of that a racist party entered the parliament; however, we are still many out there who are dreaming of something better and we will continue to express our wishes.

Below is the invitation, as it was stated on facebook:

In the name of art and democracy we now gather, we who dream of another system, of something better. Join us for a collective reading at Sergels Torg the day before D day – September 18th 1pm-2pm.

The text we will be reading is free translation of I want a president… by the artist Zoe Leonard, 1992.

We meet by the big stairs 12.45 pm. At 1 pm we start reading, again and again, until 2 pm when we either separate or celebrate!

Bring your heart, brain and voice.

The action is politically independent.

Malin Arnell, Kajsa Dahlberg, Johanna Gustavsson and Fia-Stina Sandlund.
